O say can you, s**t, f**k, dammit!
Last week, people who were watching the livestream for the Free and Equal Elections Foundation debate were treated to a rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” that was so bad it went viral.
The singer, named Loomis, kicked off the debate between third-party presidential candidates with her version of the national anthem — and at first she seemed to be doing OK. But when she got to the lyrics, “And the rockets’ red glare,” she seemed to get flustered, suddenly stopped and stammered:
“I fucked it up. I fucked it up. Can I go back? Can I go back, please?”
To which, someone off camera yelled to her:
“You can’t. We’re live.”
With that, Loomis soldiered on. She made it through the rest of the song relatively unscathed — aside from a few iffy notes. She did stop singing again at another awkward point, just to clarify to anyone watching that she “got too nervous,” and when she finished the song, she stumbled a bit when she walked offstage.
When the clip of Loomis made its way onto X, formerly Twitter, over the weekend, people were less than impressed — with some comparing it to Fergie’s disastrous national anthem performance in 2018.
That’s a pretty good representation of our country right there
About as serious as the candidates.
her handling of this just gave me too much secondhand embarrassment, I don’t think I can watch this clip more than once omg 😭
I’m seriously beginning to wonder if we’re all on Candid Camera or something.
Just points to the absurdity of singing the national anthem before a fucking debate. We are the stupidest nation
I know Fergie is somewhere smiling hard af right now bc she no longer has the worst national anthem performance in history 😂

In an Instagram video posted on Saturday, Loomis called the incident a “mishap” and apologized by saying: “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to mess up the national anthem.”
“This has been something I’ve been scared of since I was a little girl,” she continued. “I was scared I was gonna fail and then I did, and the world’s seen it.”
We’re just hoping Fergie saw it, honestly.
